Abydonians - [Homeworld: Abydos] A simple desert-dwelling people, the first off-world civilization encountered by Earth 'Gate travelers. Abydonians are descendants of the people of ancient Egypt, both populaces enslaved by the Goa'uld Ra. Through repeated contact with Earth peoples, as well as an extended stay by Dr. Daniel Jackson, some Abydonians have learned to speak English.

Ancients - The Ancients, according to the Asgard, are the original architects of the Stargates. They have not yet been encountered in any corporeal form, but it has been theorized that the Ancients are the same race as the Ascended - humans and other species that have "evolved" to a higher plane of being. They have moved on from this part of the galaxy; prior to their passing, they were a member of an alliance of four races: the Ancients, the Asgard, the Nox, and the Furlings.

Aschen - [Homeworld: P4C-970] Limited contact has been made with this race, as they are presumed to be hostile. Their tactic is to make peace with a civilization, presume to provide that civilization technology and information, but slowly reduce the birth rate through medical and genetic manipulation. (As their life span greatly exceeds ours, this tactic is quite reasonable for the Aschen.)

Asgard - [Homeworld: Unnamed] The Asgard are a highly developed and advanced race, who have formed a strong alliance with Earth.

Donari - [Homeworld: Donar (P2T-421)] The Donari are a human civilization which has evolved very closely in parallel with Earth; their current level of development is comparable to Earth's mid-twentieth century. They have developed strong exchange relations with Earth, and their home planet serves as the location for Stargate Prime Command.

As is similar to other Goa'uld-enslaved worlds, such as Earth and Abydos, the Donari rose up against their Goa'uld oppressors centuries ago and overthrew the local Goa'uld lord. They have since negotiated with several other species to acquire technology to protect their homeworld from further Goa'uld invasion.

Furlings - Nothing is known of this race, other than it was one of four ancient races (including the Ancients, the Asgard, and the Nox) which formed an alliance across the galaxy.

Goa'uld - [Homeworld: P3X-888] The Goa'uld are one of the most powerful and dominant species in the galaxy, and are the species which introduced the Stargates to Earth. The first 'Gate left by the Goa'uld was buried in Antarctica; when it became inaccessible to them due to Earth's last Ice Age, they brought another and located it in ancient Egypt. The Goa'uld themselves are parasitic reptilian organisms, which take human hosts and suppress the personality of that host. If the host is killed, the symbiote will most likely die, although it can continue to live on if it is transferred immediately to another host. Goa'uld are stronger and swifter than normal humans, abilities imparted by the symbiotes to their hosts.

As a civilization, they are power-hungry, feudal, and vain. Humans possessed by Goa'uld parasites can be identified by a deeper, resonating register in their voice (both men and women), and the ability to cause their eyes to glow. Goa'uld can sense the presence of other Goa'uld, as can humans who have served as Goa'uld hosts, because Goa'uld have the nonterrestrial mineral naquada in their system.

Jaffa - [Homeworld: various] Jaffa are humans who have been enslaved by Goa'uld masters to serve as personal guards and hosts to symbiotes. They are often taken from one planet and relocated on a planet of the Goa'uld's choosing, so Jaffa themselves have no homeworld. They are mighty warriors, and except for small freedom-fighting factions, are in absolute loyal service to their Goa'uld master - the result of extensive mental conditioning and Goa'uld mind-control technology.

Jaffa can be identified by a symbol on their forehead - either tattooed or formed of raised skin and painted - which is representative of their Goa'uld lord. All Jaffa carry a larval Goa'uld symbiote within a pouch in their abdomen. Carrying such a symbiote imparts the healing properties of the symbiote, but the Jaffa does not lose his or her full identity to the symbiote. The presence of the symbiote also imparts greater strength and speed to its host. The Jaffa pay for these benefits with a high price - Jaffa whose symbiotes are removed die shortly thereafter. Only recently has it been discovered that with the aid of a drug - tretonin - can Jaffa survive without the presence of their symbiote.

Nox - The Nox appear at first glance to be an under-developed race, but are in fact an ancient race which has chosen an agrarian, sylvan, peaceful lifestyle. They were once a member of an alliance of four races, including the Asgard, the Ancients, and the Furlings. Individuals of the race possess the ability to raise their dead, as well as cloak objects as large as entire cities in a shroud of invisibility.

Replicators - Replicators are an artificial lifeform, unstoppable machines of destruction. They were created by an android on an unnamed world, the civilization of which was destroyed by the Replicators. These "bugs" are able to break down metals and other solid substances and reform them into materials to create additional Replicators - their version of reproduction. Beyond that, each replicator is constructed of individual pieces, the parts of which (from one or several Replicators) can be rearranged into whatever form necessary. They are extremely advanced, and their programming causes them to be relentless attackers and devourers of technology.

The Asgard have been wrestling with the Replicators for decades. Their numbers have grown to the point where extermination is deemed improbable. The Asgard are currently searching for a way to deactivate them as a species - a similar process to what happened to a small band of Replicators when their android creator was terminated.

Re'tu - [Homeworld: Rhetalia] The Re'tu are an unusual species, appearing invisible to the naked eye because they exist 180 degrees "out of phase" with us. They are mortal enemies of the Goa'uld, due to the near-extinction of the Re'tu at the hands of the Goa'uld. Contact with Re'tu has been hostile, because the Re'tu seek to eliminate any possible Goa'uld hosts. The species appears to be reptilian when visible; they are only visible to us through the use of a T.E.R., which illuminates and can exterminate a Re'tu.

Tau'ri - [Homeworld: Earth] The people of Earth are known as the Tau'ri on many other planets. The word is derived from "Terra," the Latin word for earth.

Tok'ra - The Tok'ra are of the same race as the Goa'uld, however the Tok'ra are a peaceful civilization and are a resistance movement of the Goa'uld. They have become a strong ally of Earth, and have provided several pieces of technology to help deal with the Goa'uld threat. They live in voluntary symbiosis with their hosts.

Tollan - [Homeworld: Tollana] The Tollan are an advanced race, even more so than the Goa'uld, but are extremely arrogant and refuse to share technology with any other species. Their mistrust and unwillingness to share stems from a previous donation of technology which subsequently caused the recipient civilization to destroy itself.

They have developed an uneasy truce with Earth. Several encounters with the Tollan have proven frustrating, as they consider themselves culturally and intellectually superior to humans. Their civilization possesses powerful offensive and defensive technology, preventing the Goa'uld from attacking Tollana.

Unas - [Homeworld: P3X-888] The Unas are reptilian in appearance, and an extremely underdeveloped society. They have been chosen by some races as slaves because of their great strength. They are believed to be the original species to serve as host to the Goa'uld, which evolved on the same planet. (The Goa'uld have, for the most part, abandoned the Unas as hosts because of the superior intellect of humans.)
